Dan Taylor

I am a contemporary artist whose practice centres on painting and mixed media, with a particular focus on layering, colour relationships, and sustained observation. My work develops through a slow process of looking and reworking, where surfaces are built gradually and adjusted over time. Through this approach I explore how colour, structure, and repetition shape the way an image is perceived.

Layering is central to the process. Paint is applied, obscured, and reintroduced, allowing earlier decisions to remain partially visible within the final surface. This accumulation creates a sense of depth and duration within the work, where each painting becomes a record of looking, adjusting, and responding.

My practice is guided by the belief that small shifts in colour, proportion, and placement can significantly alter the experience of a work. Through careful observation and a restrained visual language, I aim to create paintings that reward sustained attention and invite the viewer into a slower encounter with colour and form.
